How do you diversify a syllabus? Today, The Atlantic published a timely and thorough article synthesizing the increasing awareness among art history teachers of the field’s lamentable diversity, both in demographics and in critical perspectives. The article examines how the College Board restructured the AP Art History course to reflect greater diversity in what students study, whose artwork they learn from, and whose writing about art they read – rather than mirroring the cultural bias that has long shaped the art world.
